I’m a woman and .. I’m damn proud of it! And I am not going to lecture you about feminism. I have reached an age in which I can say I’m at peace with me, who I am and who I’ll become. There are stages in life that you go through when you don’t feel so good about yourself, the way you look, the way things are in your life, the people around you. It’s normal, there are steps and stages in life you have to go through in order to grow and understand things about yourself and the others around you.
I am an English teacher at a high school so I’m in contact all the time with teenagers. And yes, my lovely students, this post is for you too! This is not for the ladies only, there are also men who struggle with their self-esteem and self-image too. Life is a continuous school, you learn about yourself, the way you act and react to the things that happen in your life. You learn about yourself through the eyes of the others around you, family, friends or foes.
Don’t give up!
And yes, I can tell you not to despair, no matter how bad things may seem now, this is only a second in your life. It will pass, it will be better. Don’t give up! If you think your appearance is not as it should be, as the others think it should, who are they to judge?? If you are happy and at peace with yourself, you shouldn’t care about the world. You should only care about you being happy and healthy and comfortable in your own body and skin.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say. And it’s true, some look for beauty and appearance, others look beyond the make-up and clothes. It depends. It’s all about choices you and the others make in their lives. And ladies, the make-up, perfumes and clothes don’t make a person! They are only accessories to use or not, it’s up to you! A woman can seduce wearing no make-up, perfume or revealing clothes, it’s all about her confidence in who she is and the right attitude! To use or not to use make-up or cosmetics is your choice!
All it takes is a positive attitude!
Don’t get me wrong, I love all things beauty: make-up, cosmetics, perfumes, clothes, accessories, jewelry. All the little things us, women, enjoy that make our lives happier. But I could also live without them. They don’t make or break me! They simply complement my personality and reveal things about me to the others. And yes I’m a woman and I’m happy with who I am. I love my job and my students (most of the times) , I try to live my life as it comes, to start the day with a positive attitude and a smile on my face, to enjoy the things life throws at me, good or bad , to learn from the bad and share the good with others.
All the things you do, come back to you!
Yes, I truly believe that! When I was younger I thought it was only a cliché! But I observed some things that happened to some of the people around me over the years. Yes, if you do bad, it comes back to haunt you in some way or another later. I try to do good every time I can, to help others, to smile, to share a kind word or hug to the ones who need it. And I observed that the good I do comes back to me later, or when I need it. It feels great to see that you’ve made a difference (big or small) in somebody’s life.
Try to see the bright side of life, the beautiful and good things, if you think positively, good things may come your way. I’ve seen people who only think about the negatives that are about to happen to them, and they do. Negative things can bring troubles so start the day (no matter if easy or difficult) with the belief that something good will happen to you (if it hasn’t happened before – you’ve had your yummy coffee for the day, the first kiss from your loved one, the sun was shining brightly after days of rain, the first flower blooming in the spring outside your window, your child’s unconditional love, your pet’s joie du vivre the list can go on and on). Live your life, be happy and loved! And love yourself first!
